How I Discovered God through Mathematics!

‘If there is a God, he's a great Mathematician’! – This was Paul Dirac’s (British Mathematician) sarcastic claim. I was a bit crazy about mathematics during my school days and was exploring more. It has led me towards the truth that anything in this universe can be defined and explained through Mathematics. I came across Albert Einstein’s comment: “God does not care about our Mathematical difficulties; He integrates empirically.” I think that was the time I got a spark that God too can be defined in terms of Mathematics, which we believe as the major science based on pure logic.

During my early Catechism classes, my conscious used to have cat fight with logic on various things. I have opted to be on the side of logic always. This has lead to several problems and a lot of confusion in my mind on the existence of God. Despite all that I had learnt in my Sunday School, my primary question was ‘Is there God? If there is God why do people struggle to interpret Him in terms of Logic (Mathematical proof) which I learn in my regular school, that too, run by the Church?’

I have done with the Holy Bible for many times, the way I could. But I really could not satisfy my desperately wandering conscious that was searching for a mathematical proof for the existence of God.

The fight between my conscious and logic continued for seven more years till I clearly understood the basic properties of zero in class 11. When Prof. Vishnu, my Mathematics teacher, explained us all about zero during his lecture on Indices, he said x^0 = 1, where x can be any number except zero. It hit my brain instantly. I asked him why except zero? 0^0 does not exist? Though he has clarified that 0^0 is undefined, he gave me a deep and penetrating look and asked me to follow him to the Mathematics Department after the lecture.

After the class, I went with him to the Maths Dept. He made me sit beside him and asked me whether I can define Mathematics which, in his words, I have been learning for 11 years! Seeing my struggle to define Mathematics, he explained me what it is : Mathematics is the logical exploration or interpretation of all living things; non living things and concepts. He further said, ‘You can understand what are living things and non living things. Do you understand what concepts are?’ ‘ Like?’ – I asked him. ‘Like, You heard that the universe is ever expanding; you heard that there is God and so on..’ ‘Even if you try to define God in terms of logic, it is Mathematics!’ He said. ‘When you try to find the boundary of the Universe, you need Mathematics’ He continued, it is Mathematics that defines everything. But it struggles at a very few occasions. Our discussions went on for quiet long. It was all about zero. We have discussed a lot about division by zero. I had seen that all numbers can be divided by another number. For example, 10/2 = 5, 3/9 = 1/3 etc. But I couldn’t understand why Mathematics restricts division by zero. It prohibits that act by a rule. I could not reason why the rules which are applicable for all the other numbers are not applicable only to Zero. Why zero is exempted?

I came home unhappy as I didn’t get a satisfactory answer. But it was clear that my teacher has ignited my thoughts. I could not sleep during the night. As I was trying to sleep by just staring at the ceiling, many thoughts came simultaneously to my mind. I was told in the Sunday school that God has created everything from ‘nothingness’ (Genesis 1). Many Bible quotes came flashed in my brain. 'It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end’. (Revelation 21:1-8). Is this word of God has made zero in the shape of a circle? After you draw a circle, you cannot say where you have started and where you have ended. The start point is the end point too. ‘From everlasting to everlasting, He is God’ (Psalm 90:2). ‘All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made’(John 1:3).

It is the same story explained differently in Hindu mythology too. The Bhagavad Gita states the eternality of matter and its transformability clearly: “Material nature and the living entities should be understood to be beginningless. Their transformations and the modes of matter are products of material nature.”The opening words of Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita 2.12-13 also imply this, as do the doctrines referred to in 16.8.I went after nothingness – the Shoonya, the wonder called zero. I have tried to define zero. We all know that the number system starts with Shoonya. And the end? We say it goes to infinity. You cannot find the last number, though you know there is one. So there is something that starts from nothingness and moves to a domain called infinity? The creator has created everything from nothingness. And after the creation, everything in the Universe obeys laws explained by Mathematics. In other words, you can divide or cut things into pieces and analyze. But you cannot divide anything by zero. You cannot cut anything zero number of times. If you do so, Mathematics says, the result is undefined. When Mathematics says everything can be defined, why it says only division by nothingness cannot be defined? What logic you give to explain this? (I am not looking for higher level mathematics where it makes matters worse by injecting the term ‘intermediate’)

Infinity is something we know that exists but we are not clear about it today. In other words, we may discover it later as science progress. But ‘undefined’ is a clear acceptance that we do not know what it is! Mathematics, which explains everything and has constructed all its foundations on zero, says it does not know what happens if we divide anything by zero. It does not know what happens if we power zero by zero (00, i.e., God cannot be powered by Himself? Is it a silent acceptance that there is no other God than Himself?) Hence I understand that the entire Mathematics empire is built upon an assumption which has never proved, defined or questioned. It is derived from great Godly assumption – nothingness - the Zero. Zero remains above all imaginations, proofs and assumptions!
What it is? Can I call it the Ultimate Power, because you assume all the power from it and start from there? Can I call it God, the Creator who does not want to get questioned (or didn’t give that wisdom) by his own creatures?

Dear readers, this has prompted me to believe that God exists and he controls everything by giving us a four dimensional (the usual three plus time) freedom.

The Holy Bible tells us that time is a dimension that God created, into which man was subjected. It even tells us that one day time will no longer exist. That will be called “eternity.” (String Theory can explain this very well. It can be used even to explain why God took six days to complete creation and how God speak through the Book of Revelation.) God Himself dwells outside of the dimension He created. He dwells in eternity and is not subject to time or any other dimensions. God predicted history before it came into being. He moves through time as a man turns the pages of a history book.

Because we live in the dimension of time, and God is beyond that, it is impossible for us to fully understand anything that does not have a beginning and an end. Simply accept that fact, and believe the concept of God's eternal nature by faith, (a state of mind, at a higher level, can take you to a six dimensional experience!) even though such thoughts put a strain on our distinctly insufficient cerebrum.

What do you think now? That there is a God and he’s the greatest Mathematician?

The Business Called World Cup

Can you manage a Final as per your desires? The ongoing developments in the world cup forces me to believe so. When ESPN –Star Sports (ESS) has got the telecast rights, no one thought so, except themselves. The equation works like a child proving a mathematical problem in his class. The question for him is – Prove that you can multiple your money by investing in world cup telecast rights.

Here goes the proof. Fix a rate for the airtime of the final match. He has fixed it as 24 lakhs per 10 seconds. 200 seconds he reserved for sale during the last hour for an undisclosed sum which will be determined that time. Now the next step is to make advertisers pay the fixed rates. For this, you need get India in the finals. Then the entire nation will forget their duties as citizens and get glued to the idiot box. (Incredible India!) He hires a strategist discreetly, to study the playing pattern of the teams at the pre quarter level and derive a strategy to manage teams and ensure India in the finals. An India win too can be managed but it is not a part of the strategy. The strategist finds that when Sachin hits century, the rest of India won’t play and India looses. So make Sachin play but not hit a century; If India’s score is not comfortable enough, make the rival team throw wickets. (Whether Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik had warned their team for match fixing on intelligence reports?)

Our student has to throw money to get money. He did precisely that. He has made a deal with the fixing lobby to get the desired outcome.

The result? Great! Even Sachin admits that he never had so many lives in a match!

Now the boy has put the strategist on the task of managing a win for India in the final so that the upcoming IPL rates can be pushed up!

Business behind the Tsunami & N Power

Tsunami is the haunting word to the world today. An elementary science student knows that Tsunami is the result of massive earthquakes in deep sea. Have you ever thought why earthquakes are happening in such a magnitude? Despite all the media publicized scientific explanations, the fact lies somewhere else.

When you pump out oil, vacuum is created just like you suck out air from a sealed container. The deference in the density of the replacing material, if at all such replacement happens, will determine the magnitude of earth quakes by which earth gets adjusted to human intervention. (Oil extraction on land is a reason for lowered levels of ground water in India.)

Since most of the tsunamis are due to over exploitation of nature’s wealth, it can be prevented easily. Let us just stop sucking mother’s blood- the oil. Use water as the primary source of energy. Use solar energy to electrolyze water. Vehicles will run on hydrogen from water and release oxygen through its vent pipe. Envisage a pollution free world we love to live. Unfortunately the brutally strong oil companies and the oil rich nations won’t allow us to do it since they does not own the sun.

On the other part, see the Japanese resilience! They are not crying; instead, helping each other. Citizens turn relief workers; food stalls lower food prices, no looting and black marketing. Unity everywhere!

Back in India, we could shut down Kalplakam plant when tsunami hit it. But the oldest GE-made Boiling Water Reactor still operates at Tarapur. (GE supplied all six reactors at Fukushima Daiichi plant) Fukushima spent-fuel fires. India's Tarapur spent fuel is accumulated for four decades, with US unwilling to take it back or let India reprocess. If the fallout from Japanese tsunami is a reliable guide, India’s nuclear power’s advocates, it is time to rethink.
